Our Philosophy

We believe that instilling a love of learning in children at an early age is the key for them to learn the skills they need to find their passion, happiness, determination and fulfillment later in life.  Education is the key for making changes in the world that will have a global impact. Our aim is for our students to grow into compassionate and open-minded global citizens.  As we do not know what our world will be like in the next 20 years, it is important for parents and educators to equip children with the skills they need to pioneer new ideas and innovations in the future.  Helping children to understand the value of society by developing their emotional intelligence and human relationships will inspire them to come up with solutions for the challenges society will face when they are older.

We believe that the best way for children to develop a love of learning is by encouraging children to be independent, trusting them to make their own decisions, providing a safe and nurturing environment where they feel confident to explore, investigate, and express their creativity, while giving them time to reflect on their learning. Combining these elements will give our students the best learning environment for them to become adults who can contribute to making a better world.

Independence and Trust: Encouraging children to become independent and ensuring that they know they are trusted to make their own decisions helps them to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Children experience and enjoy “a-ha!” moments when they discover something on their own which helps to instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

Nurturing environment: Our spacious classroom, along with our warm and friendly teachers creates an atmosphere for children that is nurturing and safe.  When children feel safe, they can explore and investigate in a way that develops their determination.  We believe that trial and error is an important part of a child’s development as it develops their willingness to persevere even in frustrating or difficult situations. Tokyo Children’s Garden provides an environment where children can try, and try again until they are happy and satisfied with the outcome.

Reflection: Reflection is an important part of the learning process for both children and adults. By documenting the children’s learning and having it available and visible for them to see, children can reflect on what they have experienced and learned and solidify their understanding by communicating their thoughts and ideas to others.  Looking, revisiting and reworking are all part of the reflection process.
